Směrnice pro kontrolu a postih dopingu ve sportu je prováděcím předpisem ke Světovému antidopingovému kodexu, který je základním a univerzálním dokumentem, z něhož vychází světový antidopingový program.

Směrnice pro kontrolu a postih dopingu ve sportu v České republice je samozřejmě přizpůsobena sportovnímu prostředí v České republice, neboť je platná pro sportovní organizace v České republice a jejich členy. Antidopingová pravidla popsaná ve Směrnici jsou součástí sportovních pravidel a sportovci je musí dodržovat.
