World Antidoping Code
The Code is the core document that provides the framework for harmonized anti-doping policies, rules, and regulations within sport organizations and among public authorities. It works in conjunction with four International Standards aimed at bringing harmonization among anti-doping organizations in various areas: testing, laboratories, therapeutic use exemptions (TUEs) and the List of Prohibited Substances and Methods.
This harmonization works to address the problems that previously arose from disjointed and uncoordinated anti-doping efforts, such as, among others, a scarcity and splintering of resources necessary to conduct research and testing, a lack of knowledge about specific substances and procedures being used and to what degree, and an uneven approach to penalties for athletes found guilty of doping.

Athletes Antidoping Rights Act
The purpose of the World Anti-Doping Program and the World Anti-Doping Code, which supports it, is:
- protect the fundamental right of Athletes to participate in doping-free-sport, promote health, justice and equality for all Athletes
- ensure harmonization, coordination and efficiency of international and national anti-doping programs in regard to the control and prevention of doping.
World Antidoping program
The World Anti-Doping Program includes all the elements necessary to ensure optimal harmonization and best practices in national and international anti-doping programs. The main parts are:
- Code
- International Standards
- Best practice models and instructions
International standards for the various technical and operational areas of the Anti-Doping Program will be developed in consultation with Signatories and Governments and approved by WADA. The purpose of these International Standards is to harmonize the activities of Anti-Doping Organizations responsible for specific technical and functional parts of the Anti-Doping Program. Compliance with International Standards is mandatory for compliance with the Code. The WADA Executive Committee may, after appropriate consultations with Signatories and Governments, modified International Standards from time to time. If the Code provides otherwise, International Standards and any amendments revisions become effective on a date to be specified in an International Standard or an amendment revision.
Best practice models and guidelines
The best practice models and guidelines based on the Code have been and will be developed to provide solutions in various areas of the fight against doping. These models will be recommended and provided by WADA to Signatories upon request, but will not be binding. In addition to providing specimens of anti-doping documentation, WADA will also provide training assistance to Signatories.
Basic rationale for the World Anti - Doping Code
Anti-doping programs seek to preserve what is truly valuable in sport. This value is often referred to as the "spirit of sport". It is the essence of Olympism and it expresses how we should play sports honestly. The spirit of sport is a celebration of the human spirit, body and mind and is characterized by the following values:

- excellent performance
- character and education
- joy and fun
- teamwork
- devotion and awareness of responsibility
- respect for rules and laws
- self-respect and respect for others Participants
- courage
- togetherness and solidarity.
- Doping is fundamentally against the spirit of sport.
